Painting. Tips to avoid painting fixtures and fittings

Have your ever painted the wall only to realize that you have also painted over nails, switches and such? You can avoid getting paint on just about anything by applying some petroleum jelly over the door handles and hinges etc when painting. You will find that the paint will not stick and when the wall has dried you can go back and just wipe off the vaseline!

Another idea is to foil wrap door knobs and other hardware before painting to keep them spatter free, the aluminum is so easy to use and will not harm any fixtures like tape can.

When painting the ceiling, tie a plastic bag over any suspended light fixtures to catch drips and protect your light at the same time.
