If you have a vase that already is a bit 'dirty' looking from being used, rinse it out with vinegar. Shaking the vinegar in the vase will make everything loose and you can rinse it right out.
To deal with more stubborn stains in glass vases try soaking in a strong solution of hot vinegar. Finish by washing in hot soapy water.
