Cheese on toast with a difference

Submitted by Anne

This recipe was devised by my Mother-in-Law many, many, years ago.

You need:-

  • Slices of bread (depending on how many are dining)
  • Grated cheese
  • Eggs

Set the oven to gas mark 6

Place the bread on a baking sheet and add the grated cheese (as much as you like)
Make a "well" in the cheese and carefully crack the egg and drop into the "well". Season to taste.
Place in the middle to top of the oven and bake until the cheese has melted and the egg is cooked.
Remove from oven and pierce each egg so that it does not carry on cooking, or you will have a hard cooked egg.

Serve with a salad, or eat on it's own. Delicious, tasty and filling.

Hope you enjoy it.

Simple and fast, made with ingredients already at hand.

Is the bread toasted first and is it buttered?

My oven is marked in degrees and I'm not sure what mark 6 translates to. Would you know? I guess this would be baked fairly hot at 375 or 400 degrees?

Thanks & cheers!
