I recently used cayenne pepper to fight the infection, and dull the pain of an abscessed molar. A few hours later the pain was much milder, and the swelling decreased considerably. Here's the recipe:
"Make an infusion of 1 tsp. cayenne pepper in one cup of boiling water, and leave it to steep for 20 minutes. Dip a cotton ball in the infusion and rubbed it along the gum of the infected tooth, then tuck the cotton ball between the gum and the cheek and let it sit. Take a small piece of cotton and soak it in the cayenne tea, and place it inside the affected tooth. It will burn a bit, but it really works."
