About Lemon Juice and How to Use it!
Lemon juice is one of those things in the house that has many, many more uses than just for making lemonade or jelly. Lemon juice is also used as a cleaner, as a brightener and for so much more in baking and cooking than you might have thought. In this article I want to tell you more about how to use lemon juice in your home, in your life and for a cleaner home.Â
Lemon juice is useable from a fresh squeezed lemon, or from a bottle. When you are looking at lemon juice to purchase the large the bottle the less the price is going to be per ounce so if you find that you really like some of the uses for lemon juice you might like to purchase large bottles to keep your costs low.Â
Lemon juice can safely be used on many items, but as when you are cleaning with any other type of cleaner you might want to try it in a space that will not be too clearly seen before you wash or clean an entire item so you can be sure if the color is going to fade or if the lemon juice is going to bleach out the coloring. You should make this a habit with all the cleaners you use in the home to prevents problems and discoloration on clothing, flooring, counters, materials and even outside the home on your siding, sidewalk and so on.Â
How can you use lemon juice? Make a paste using lemon juice and cream of tarter. A thick paste is going to be very similar to using comet or a powder type cleanser with the same great results. Try using just half a cup of lemon juice and about a quarter cup of create of tarter for starters. You can use this paste on most all-hard surfaces or on white materials. This paste will take out fruit stains, it will work out rust stains and it will help work out baby spit or formula stains on clothing and flooring that is very light in coloring. You can also use this on your stainless steel sinks, when you are cleaning the washer or on your cast iron tubs for a great white clean.Â
For clothing that has a stain on it you can work out that stain using lemon juice. Putting a cup of lemon juice in a bucket with a half-gallon of water (or you can increase it to two cups of lemon juice and a gallon of water if it is a larger material) you can soak this over night, and then hang on the line. Sometime even pouring a few drops of lemon juice on the stain and then sitting it out in the sun you will bleach out that stain without even really using bleach. If you have a really stubborn stain be sure to try this more than once, as it will lighten the stain and get it out.Â
Lemons are also used for helping those who are not feeling so good. Drinking a little lemon with your tea is going to make a fever lessen, it will lessen acids in the stomach and it will give your immune system a boost against colds and viruses that may be making its way around the home. Lemons are a fruit that are rich in vitamin C aiding in your daily diet needs as well. It you suffer from arthritis some people have found that using lemon juice in their tea or in their meals helps buffer the pain, but as with all things this is not a cure all but does help somewhat. Along with lemon juice, dried lemon leaves are available for making teas and using in cooking.Â
Lemon juice used on the skin is a good way to cure the pain that is associated with sunburns. Putting a few drops on the burned areas will keep the pain away so your skin can heal without the added stress of pain. If you or one of the children gets a cut when you are out camping or when you are out on a picnic you can use lemon juice over a cut to disinfect the area, or at least until you get home to wash it out better.Â
Lemon juice used with a bit of water as a gargle helps stop canker sores, and to dry up other types of problems with the mouth. If you get sores in your mouth or on your lips, use a cotton ball dabbed in lemon juice or use a gargle of lemon juice and water to prevent problems from getting worse.Â
If you are always fighting off dandruff, try adding a tablespoon or two or lemon juice to your shampoo, as this is going to dry up dandruff problems. Rinse well with water. Beware this can lighten your hair though!
