Try layering your belongings. Make a false bottom for your suitcase by tracing your bag on a large sheet of cardboard. Cut along the lines to form a cardboard shelf. As you pack, put your shoes, toiletries, and other hard items in the bottom of your suitcase. Then lay the cardboard shelf on top of the first layer and lay your clothes on top of the cardboard. Now you can easily lift the cardboard layer to add or remove items. It will also make things easier if airport security wants to inspect your luggage.
