Salt verdict Comments By: Melodie on 2004-08-03
I tried brushing my teeth with salt and one of my front teeth came out, how dare you spread lies like that, salt damages and removes teeth guys!

war Comments By: ami on 2004-08-16
In the war people used salt instead of toothpaste coz it was rationed or something. It can't really make your teeth fall out or can it?

TipKing says: Salt will not make your teeth fall out. However, over brushing, being too hard with the brush and having a loose tooth will make your teeth fall out.

Salt and baking soda are mild abrasives and that is a fact.

ALL toothpastes contain mild abrasives that is what ,make them clean. In fact many contain baking soda. If you over brush with ANY toothpaste you will wear down the enamel and this leads to decay, sensitivity, preceding gums and so on.

Through life there are hazards all around us and if we do things too much like eat too many burgers, chicken, sugar, candy we will die. You see no warning signs on a marshmallow to say this will kill you but if you eat 100 packets everyday you will be very ill.

So thank you for coming in on this and a little salt is fine to clean your teeth with. Tastes horrid but used in moderation will not harm you.

Salt makes you loose your teeth? No!!!!! Comments By: Kelly on 2008-11-14
John- I think you just may have some bad teeth, cause salt does not make you loose your teeth, not brushing well or neglect does... Make sure to get your cleanings @ your Dentist every 3-6 months.

agreed man made chamicals = tooth decay Comments By: perfect smile on 2008-11-18
wooooow people, stop with all the brushing, once per 2 days is by far enough, instead of using a brush try a wet cloth and wipe your teeth clean using tooth paste on the cloth instead, it still cleans and freshens but doesnt eat away those vital layers of enamal, i mean for gods sake, never trust a dentist, like ever, they get paid for keeping you coming back for more and more, they arnt like doctors as doctors dont get paid per customer. They also cannot be trusted when it comes to advice of certain pastes and cleaners, as most of them are backed by certain companies and tend to push that brand.
When it comes to tooth care i recomend you cut out that chemical crap you eat and drink, and stick to 100% natural food, that will reduce the effect on your teetch, clean a wet cloth, maybe a bit of tooth paste now and then, believe me you will be smileing all the time withing weeks, and not only that you will feel the best you have ever felt.

Really baffled Comments By: Virginia on 2009-02-25
Hey.do the banana peels thingy harm our teeth and gums too?? I hope this comment is not ignored. :(

TipKing says: I cannot see the banana doing any harm

keep on smiling :D Comments By: lisa on 2009-03-20
I agree with you. acid is not good for anyone. acid, citric acid, found in a lot of juices, soda and sometimes chewing gum. I can't get away from some juices, I drink it with a straw. Once I'm done I rinse out with water or mouthwash. Be sure that the little ones are doing a good job brushing. I see lots of kids with yellow crooked teeth. regular 6 months cleaning.

Scrubbing? Comments By: Shyla on 2009-07-11
Why are you scrubbing your teeth as if you're scrubbing a greasy pot? You do NOT need to scrub teeth so hard. In fact, it's recommended to use a soft bristle tooth brush to brush, you brush in circular motions, twice/thrice daily, floss and rinse with mouthwash, and there you go. There is no NEED to scrub your teeth unless you ate deisel fuel.

Baking soda and salt are mild abrasions and will take enamel off teeth if used too often and too hard. Be gentle! It's your mouth, not your feet.

teeth Comments By: craig on 2009-07-30
i think everyone should have to have their teeth removed by law. then all the teeth could be used to create random things such as dentures and that!!!

Hey under me Comments By: CaptainObvious on 2009-08-09
Are you 9 years old? Maybe thats the reason your teeth just suddenly fell out. After one brush. DUURR?!?

bicarbinate and soda Comments By: Megaan on 2009-09-09
if you use bicarbonate and sode regulary, such as more than twice a week, thats when it will take effect such as losing teeth, if its used once a week, or if your teeth are sensitive/weak, try once every 2 weeks or possibley 3, depends on your teeth ! then you won't have any problems.

toothpastes contain salt Comments By: awsedrf on 2009-10-26
brushing your teeth with salt is fine. I hope all of you realize that toothpastes contain salts. Fluoride is actually a salt and if your teeth haven't fallen out after brushing with fluoride toothpastes, then by no means should they fall out after using regular salt. Don't listen to the people with the falling-out-teeth comments, their just trying to be funny.

The down side is the taste but it helps

Truth~~~!~~~ Comments By: Michael.C.B.S on 2009-10-29
First of all never trust a dentist i went to have a filling and the dentist said he was going to clean the back of my teeth top and bottom i said ok then a day later my front tooth came loose about a week later still very loose i pushed it back up into my gum and its steady now..i used lots of different toothpaste's and nothing really seems to work my teeth go white(r) for a couple days then the dullness of yellow comes creeping back...a good tip to whiter teeth.
1)dont drink beer/liqure
2)dont smoke
3)eat healthy
4)brush once in the morning once and night
5)close you mouth when walking down the street or into work keep your mouth closed as much as possible theres chemicals in the air witch actually eroad your teeth/skin/hair cloths etc..hense "wear&tear" expression...im going to try all of this for the next 1month to see results hopfully...and using salt etc..i dont know but i can only imagine its bad for your teeth aswell as you diet..

Whiter teeth Comments By: Lucyy on 2009-11-10
the best way to get the whitest teeth is brushing and flossin wice a day and once a month do a quick rince with hydrogen peroxide or use whitening strips ONCE A MONTH!!! you can damage your teeth if you do any more. .

DANGEROUS SALT Comments By: Dr. Anon on 2010-08-11
Salt can kill you if it gets into your bloodstream! Keep away from salt!

lil salt is okay Comments By: asaomo on 2010-08-25
i always add a lil´salt to my toothpaste and it cleans the teeth very well..because only toothpaste doesn´t do the work to my satisfation

stupid people Comments By: ninja on 2010-10-03
@Dr.Anon, why would salt kill you if it gets into your bloodstream? Everyone eats salt almost everyday and I doubt there will be too much sodium ending up into the bloodstream just by using it to clean your teeth.

Salt isn't bad Comments By: Danny on 2011-01-07
Look for ur teeth only clean the front of them not the top and bottom cuz if u hav a cavity its gonna get inside and eat away and the blood stream thing is not true its only if u have too much salt but salt is used to stop and clean bloody wounds because it burns u and it will prevent u from bleeding out so the only thing salt can do to u is clog ur blood stream but u wont die their is pills for that such as theirs pills for heart burn u will feel if ur blood was clogged it doesnt happen over night

I think it'll work Comments By: Charlotte on 2011-02-03
Everyone, I don't think salt will harm your teeth. I've read all this and these are my reasons:
A)A dentist said it would work
B)People claim to be using the tip and it's FINE!!!
So if my teeth fall out, so be it (not that I'd be cool about it but still), but don't have a go at everyone else, they didn't physically force you by putting salt on your teeth. They just said, oh, it works, you tried it, and either your a liar or your plain dumb/unlucky.
I'm trying it.

Groww UPP!! Comments By: Analee on 2011-03-03
REALLY??? so your teeth are falling out due to salt. if that were true, i believe they would have fell out by eating salt! you obviously brushedd wayyyyy too hard! why would it be dangerous its edible and it hits your teeth probabaly in everyhing you eat. some of these comments are a discrace lol like seriously.. obviously you are a little slowwwww because i mean... if your teeth start to fall out... you should be doing a liiitle more than looking up home remedies on the internet. go tell your dentist- because my teeth are still intact!

80 year old grandpa Comments By: natalya on 2011-03-20

Salt ate away enamel Comments By: Eleanor on 2011-04-30
My aunt, who once-upon-a-time had wonderfully strong and attractive teeth, started brushing her teeth regularly with salt when she was in her seventies. Within a couple of years or so her teeth had almost no enamel left! What a disaster! She thought she was doing something good for her teeth and gums but as it turned out she absolutely ruined her teeth altogether.

Stay away from using salt as a toothpaste.
