Ginger cinnamon and honey for Sore Throat Relief

Submitted by Regina

I got this from my high school advisor, or all people. It works like a charm and tastes great, too.

In one cup of hot water, mix about a quarter teaspoon of ginger, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of sugar and honey to taste. The ginger is healing and will stimulate the cells in your throat to heal; the honey is soothing; the cinnamon and sugar are just for a little extra kick. Enjoy.

I haven't tried this remedy yet, since I'm at school, but I will try it.

Thanks, Regina. You may be the person with the tip I need.

it works pretty well, just dont put too much of anything in or else it makes the ginger burn a bit and hurts. i would recommend warm water not hot.

Always does the trick Comments By: Adam on 2008-10-07
This is the kind of thing I usually make for a sore throat (though the ginger and cinnamon are new to me- good suggestions though). It's worth noting that honey actually has some antiseptic properties, which helps this concoction to work :)

Actually worked! Comments By: Lauren on 2009-02-26
I had a sore throat for two days and I was desperate to get rid of it. This recipe worked pretty well and the taste wasn't horrible. It did not cure the soreness but reduced it well enough so I could get through the day. Thank you!

Thanks, this works for me, the best relief I,ve had for days. Know it won,t cure the problem, but at least I can swallow.

Irritates throat more Comments By: Anon on 2009-09-15
I’m drinking it as I type and it seems to be irritating my throat more. Plus, the taste, to me, is not good. I used ground ginger and LOTS of honey. I’m about half way done with the cup and haven’t noticed any relief. :( Bummer. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish the cup. The taste is sickening. I might try making it without so much honey.

This Works! Comments By: Kelsey on 2009-12-24
Hey! I'm sixteen years old. I woke up a few days ago with this problem in my throat...it might be strep...I'm not sure yet. But anyway I have been searching the internet all day for remedies for a sore throat because it literally feels like there's a knife in my throat when I swallow. I tried this & it worked! I'm not sure it's going to cure it or work over an extended period of time or anything, but it did work. Made my throat feel so much better. :)

Remember this from my childhood... Comments By: Jessica on 2010-03-25
I remember my mother giving this to us for sore throats when we were young, and could not afford to buy meds all the time. It's an old remedy and works unless you have a more serious condition than a regular sore throat.

I have an allergic sore throat like crazy and I've had it all day. I couldn't stand the thought of merely swallowing. I took a nap and woke up and swallowed and practically ripped my hair out. I haven't been able to concentrate on anything. Then this worked and I feel way better.
