Setting goals will make your jobs seem simpler and easier. If the work in the home makes you feel ratty or put you in a bad mood then you are doing too much.
Get the family to help but do not expect them to have your high standards. Praise them all for their efforts, you will find them more willing to help next time.
If you are out at work all week then think about a cleaner coming in once or twice a week. Do not tidy up for the cleaner though.
Do the minimum to keep the house under control, rather than the maximum: Vacuum the main living areas once a week, some areas do not even need that.
Don't try to do too much at a time, it is better to get two things done right and finished than 6 half done things.
Always make sure that there is enough food in the house for all the family. Do not feel that you have to provide two cooked meals a day, especially at the weekends. Serve something simple at lunch time like soup, cheese followed by fruit.
You should stand back a bit an allow the family to prepare some of the food themselves. They will be slower than you and make mistakes, let them get on with it. If they are completely inept then get some convenience foods in and show them how to heat it up.
Do not overstretch yourself physically, financially or mentally.
If you have small children in the house and no help then do not even consider having a big formal meal. Always keep it informal.
If your partner wants to invite people for a meal, show them the kitchen and then put your feet up.
Most of all be kind to yourself, life is too short, Our forefathers would spend their lives on the upkeep of some patch of land or shining their doorstep. Forget it!!
