When you are preparing to make your new quilt, you can line your new pieced quilt with a pastel sheet or several sheets. With no seams in the sheet you are left with a 'blank' canvas that quilting is going to decorate with your own imagination. Sheets are similar if not cheaper than other types of fabric.
If you are knitting squares for a patchwork cover you may find this tip a time saver.
Make the quilt in strips.
Knit the first square and then join the next colored thread and move onto the next square.
When you have all your strips simply join together.
