Asphalt. Tips to remove Asphalt stains from clothes and fabric

Asphalt stains on clothes or fabric should be worked on first by scraping or picking off as much of the excess asphalt on the fabric as possible. Freezing the fabric and then working on the asphalt stain is sometimes much easier. Use your fingers or a butter knife to pull out excess asphalt from the clothes or fabric.

Apply liquid laundry or dish detergent to the stained area and work in well with your fingers or a soft scrub brush. Apply the liquid from both sides of the stain if possible. Let this sit for about fifteen minutes.

Check the fabric tags if you can use bleach on this type of fabric.

Soak the item in a gallon of water with a cup of liquid or powdered bleach. Soak only for about ten minutes and then rinse. Re inspecting for the asphalt stain.

If the asphalt stain still remains, put the stain side down and apply a few drops of  dry cleaning fluid to the back of the stain. Let this dry and launder. Do not dry until you have re inspected the stain once again.

Repeat as needed until the entire asphalt stain is gone!
