Nail Polish. Tips to remove Nail Polish stains on clothes and fabric

Like to paint your nails but sometimes brush against your tablecloth or your clothes only to leave a stain?  Use this tip to get nail polish out of your favorite clothing and fabrics.

First turn the fabric inside out, place the stained side down on a paper towel or towel.

Next take a cotton ball and wet it with nail polish remover.  Dab at the nail polish stain from the back side and the nail polish will come out of your fabric and onto to the paper towel that you have under the fabric.

Be sure to check the fabric tag before using nail polish remover on it. Certain fabrics like acetate and similar will ‘melt’ or dissolve when you use the nail polish remover on it.

If you don’t know what type of fabric you are working with or if you think it will melt the fabric take your clothing to a dry cleaner to have the nail polish stain taken out.

I tried this on a pair of 100% cotton pants, and it did not even budge the polish. In fact, the paper towel came out spotless.

It seems to spread and set the stain rather than remove it. No mark on paper towel

In order to get most of the nail polish stain out you have to put a lot of nail polish remover on a towel and scrub pretty hard in order to remove the nail polish.

haha I agree with all of you guys before me!! I spilled bright red nail polish on a white pair of abercrombie shorts...well I removed the stain almost all the way but you should try scrubbing your clothes or whatever with a toothbrush and some nail polish remover. Or you could try spray -n- wash...that kinda worked too! well good luck!

It Worked a Little Comments By: Kelsey on 2007-04-14
I poured nail polish remover onto my $45 Roxy dress and scrubbed with a tooth brush until my hand felt like in was going to fall off. I ran it under HOT water and tried again. Now I just have a slightly pink spot on my blue and white striped dress.

Okay Comments By: Anon on 2010-07-15
This worked well on my primark pale pink top. I used quite a lot of nail polish remover but it came out after a while. At first I didn't put enough remover on and it just spread the stain so if you try it use lots of nail polish remover.

I am a beauty therapist and got nail polish on my best work pants.I used this tip and found it to be quite effective, althogh the stain is still slightly there it can not be seen until the garment is wet.The pants are polyester maybe this is why it was effective.
