Salve. Tips to remove Salve stains on clothes and fabric
Salve is used on adults, children, and animals. Sometimes when using salve it is easy to get on your fabrics and clothing so use these great cleaning tips so you don’t have a salve stain on your clothing.Â
When stain first happens, take a paper towel and blot the excess salve from the fabric. Don’t rub the salve or your stain will get larger. Just blot with a towel to bring up any excess you can. Most likely you are not going to be able to get much moisture up but you will have better success if you scrape the salve off the fabric. You might find that scraping with a butter knife will bring some of the excess salve off.Â
Use a pre treat spray or stain stick and apply a saturating amount over the stained area. Pre treaters will break down the oil base in the salve so you can work that stain out .Â
Let the garment sit for about an hour, and then rub in some clear bleach free laundry detergent. Rub this in with your fingers or a soft scrub brush and saturate the area with detergent working out the salve stain.Â
Rinse in water in a bucket or in the sink, and then launder as usual. Recheck the stain and repeat if needed to remove any remnants of the stain.Â
If you have a very persistent salve stain and your fabric tag states you can use bleach, soak your fabric in a bucket of water with two cups of bleach or two cups of all color fabric bleach.Â
Rinse out the bleach with water. Let the garment dry to check if the stain is gone.Â
If you don’t want to use bleach you could use oxyclean and water, soaking the item for an hour or two to break up the salve stain.Â
If all else fails and you still have a stain from the salve, use a few drops of dry cleaning solution on the stain, and then blot it up with a paper towel to work any remaining stain out of the fabric.
