Mayonnaise. Tips to remove Mayonnaise stains on carpets

Mayonnaise stains on your carpeting happen when you least expect it.  You can be prepared to get mayonnaise stains out of your carpeting using these tips.

Remove as much of the excess mayonnaise that is on the top of the carpeting as you can by using a scraping method.  Scrape with a butter knife or plastic utensil without pulling on the fibers too much.  You can do this even if the stain is a little dried or fresh.

After scraping up all the mayonnaise that didn’t sink into the carpeting, you can dab the stained area with a cloth and rubbing alcohol. Do not pour the rubbing alcohol on your carpet but just dab with the cloth to bring out the stain.

You can also use vinegar on your cloth, dabbing at the stain if you don’t have any rubbing alcohol in the house.  Don’t push the stain in the carpet, but dab gently to remove the stain.

If you have more mayonnaise in the carpeting yet, use a spray mixture of two tablespoons of dish liquid and two cups of water.  Use a non-bleach, clear dish liquid. Spray and dab the area where the mayonnaise stain is.  Repeat as needed until you have brought up all the stain.  Rinse the carpet with a clear water solution, spraying and blotting to bring out all of the soap in the carpeting.

Let your carpet dry for about an hour, and then use a clean towel and peroxide to spray and dab the stained area if any stain is left in the carpet fabric. Repeat as needed or until your carpet is clean.
