Ballpoint ink. Tips to remove Ballpoint ink stains on carpets

Ballpoint ink is one stain that can be difficult to get out of your carpeting, but it can be done.  Use the following tips to get those stains out!

If your pen has exploded in a major way, be sure to get all the pieces of the pen up and thrown away as soon as possible to prevent further staining. If possible, scrape and dab the pools of ink that are on the carpeting.  Using a butter knife or a plastic knife would work well.

No matter if the stain is dry or the ink is still wet, you can proceed and work that ink stain out using isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the ink stain.  Put the rubbing alcohol on your cloth and dab at the stain.  Don’t rub the ink stain out any further, and don’t pour the rubbing alcohol on the carpet, just dab at the stain with your cloth.

After you have been working with the rubbing alcohol and you aren’t bringing up any more coloring as you are dabbing at the stain, use a mixture of two cups of water and two tablespoons of dish liquid, non bleach type. Spray this on the stain and continue dabbing at the stain, changing your cloth around so you will know if you are still bringing up more of the stain or not, and then repeat until you are no longer bringing out any more ink stain or the stain is gone.

Rinse out your carpet using just water and a clean cloth. Spray and dab the area to bring out any remaining soap and loose stain. Allow this to dry for about an hour or two.  If when you are cleaning the carpet you spill too much water you can use the wet dry vac and clean the water up so you can work on the stain.

If you still have a little stain in the carpeting, make mixture of two cups of water and a half-cup of peroxide.  Spray this on the stain and blot.  Repeat and let it sit for about an hour.  Continue this process as often as needed to get the remaining stain out.

yippee-it works!
Problem -ballpoint ink on brand new plain carpet-crushed during laying. Not best pleased as spent 2 years without a carpet in lounge. Spent next 8 hours trying everything-no good. When I found the solution I could not believe it, because I thought of Isopropyl 1st thing (I use it at work in printing industry-and have some at home to clean this screen), but could not find it. Located in sons room (no admittance!)and got to work at gone midnight. So all I have to say is thanks thanks thanks.
P.s.this is the 1st time I have found a site that actually gives out proper information.

Thank you for this wonderful TIP. It works. I only had to use the rubbing alcohol. I am going to forward this to all my friends. Thank you so much.

...then presto! It's gone! Comments By: Kecia on 2006-05-10
You know I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the tip. But I must say that this tip was the best I have seen! It is inexpensive, utilizes everyday products, and works! So far I am only at the first stage (rubbing alcohol), but the stain is 98% gone. I will still go forth with the rest of the steps, just to be sure the stain is completely out of the carpet. For the record, the stain was deep and large! Thank you TipKing!

Used the alcohol, blotted like you said and didn't need the other steps.
Thank you so much. I would'nt have believed it would work so well.

Worked great on Dog Disaster Comments By: RJ on 2007-11-05
Yep, my dog destroyed a black pen, and left a large deep black stain in our carpet. The rubbing alcohol removed about 95% of the mess ... (It was time consuming, but 3 purple (formerly white) towels later most of the mess was up. The soap water finished the job ... didn't even need the peroxide. Thanks for the tip.
