Mud. Tips to remove Mud stains on carpets
Dirt, soil, and mud are all problems that we face when we have a rain storm, pets or children. Stains from dirt, soil or mud can often be set in the carpet before you ever realize that it was tracked into the house and on the carpet but don’t fear, you can get dirt stains out of the carpet with a little patience.
If you have just found the dirt or mud, leave it be, and let it dry out before you try and remove it. Often trying to scrape dirt or mud while it is still wet will smear the stain further out on to your carpet.
After the mud is all dry, pick out the pieces that come out easily. Then using a knife break up any pieces that are just lightly being held in the carpeting and throw these pieces of mud away, and scrape up any more pieces of mud that you can without pulling on the carpeting too much.
Using a wet towel or wet paper towel, dab the areas where the mud is still in the carpet which will bring up any loose dirt onto the towel while it is loosening mud that is left in the carpet. Continue scraping while you are using the wet towel to bring up more.
Grabbing a clean cloth wet it using a mixture of hot water and a bit of dish detergent. Dab the area where the mud stain is and blot the area to bring out more of the mud stain. Continue with this method until you are not bringing any more mud out of the carpet onto your cloth or paper towel.
You can take a spray bottle with warm water and spray and blot the stained area to bring out more of the stain and the soap that is left in the carpet at the same time. Continue doing this until the stain is gone or you are not able to bring out any more of the stain.
If you are left with any stain in the carpeting from the mud, use a mixture of two cups of warm water and a half cup of peroxide. Spray and dab the stained area until the remainder of your mud stain has come up.
If you find that your carpeting is a bit wet and not drying quickly, sprinkle salt over the wet area, let it dry and then vacuum both the salt and the mud remains out of the carpet.
