Grease. Tips to remove Grease stains

Grease spills happen in the kitchen, dining room, and it can even be tracked in from the garage or workshop. If you have found a grease stain here is how you can tackle it.

Scrape up as much of the grease as you can. Often there will be a layer or grease on the top of the carpeting that you can scrape up using plastic knife, spatula or similar flat item.

Using a paper towel or cloth, blot the grease area bringing up more of the liquid. Don’t rub the carpeting because you will be pushing the grease further out into the carpeting.

Neutralize the stain by using rubbing alcohol. Put a bit of rubbing alcohol on your clean cloth and dab the stained area. Do not pour the rubbing alcohol directly on the carpet as it can damage your padding. Just wet your cloth and dab the area, keep changing portion of your cloth so you can see if you are still bringing any of the stain up.

If the stain has not come out of your carpeting, mix in a spray bottle, a cup of water and a tablespoon of dish soap. No bleach. Spray the area and blot up the moisture. Continue with this until you have brought out all of the coloring from the gravy spill that you possibly can.

Dark gravy stains can be difficult. If you still have a stain remaining in your carpet, make a mixture of one cup of water and half a cup of vinegar. The vinegar will break down additional grease stains in the carpeting. Spray this on the carpet and blot up with your blot. Don’t rub the stain in further, just blotting. Repeat as needed until your towel has not coloring from the gravy coming up any longer.

Rinse the carpeting with a clear water, spray and blot. Repeat two or three times to get the soap and the vinegar out of the fibers.

Let the carpeting dry for a few hours and then move on to the next step if you still see any hint of the stain.

Make a mixture of one cup of water and a third cup of peroxide. Spray this on your carpet and work in with your fingers without over wetting the carpeting. Let this sit for about an hour, re-spray and blot up the moisture. Keep repeating this if you still have trace amount of gravy stain and it will come up.
