After you have scraped off and blotted off the polish on the top of the carpet, you can move to the next step.
Using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water, about two cups of water and a half-cup of rubbing alcohol, neutralize the stain by spraying this mixture over the stained area and blot it up with a clean cloth. If you were using a colored furniture polish you will see it on your cloth if not, continue through the following step just to ensure that you are getting all of the wax or the out of the carpet so you don’t have a stain left. Be sure that you don’t pour the rubbing alcohol over the carpeting as it will ruin you padding and carpet backing, just spray and blot.
Using your spray bottle make a mixture of one cup of water and a tablespoon of liquid detergent. Spray this mixture over the area where you have spilled the polish. Blot up the moisture and continue doing this a few times to be sure that you are getting all of the stain and oils from the polish out of the carpeting.
After using the spritz with the liquid detergent in it be sure to repeat the process but with just plain water so that you can bring out all the soap left in the carpet. Blot and let the area dry before moving on to the next step in cleaning the polish from your carpet.
If you feel that there is any oil or wax left in the carpet from your furniture polish spill, or if you can see any of the coloring, use your spray bottle and make up this mixture. Use a cup of water and a ¼ cup of peroxide. Spray this on the carpet and let it sit for half an hour and then re-spray with a little more and blot up.
This can be repeated as needed until your entire stain is removed from the carpeting.
