If someone is having an asthma attack, they will cough, wheeze and have difficulty breathing out. Always reassure the person and try to keep them calm.
To ease breathing, have them sit up and lean slightly forward, resting on their elbows. Or turn on the hot water in the bathroom and have them sit and breathe the moist air. Give them their prescribed medication and plenty of liquids, in order to prevent dehydration.
If the medication doesn't bring immediate relief, take them quickly but calmly to the nearest hospital or contact their doctor.
Asthma is a serious condition and should always be treated with respect. If your doctor prescribes medication, it is essential that the sufferer takes it in accordance to the doctors directions.
