If the metal lid on a jar is stuck so tight you can't open it, tap the side of the lid smartly on the kitchen counter. Loosens the stuck lid every time.

Excellent tip - used it to open a very stubborn jar of pasta sauce - it was the only one i had and I couldn't bear a trip to the shop for another!!!
